Committee Replacement
Kahim Bowles, 2187, to pick replacement for Saul Ravitch.
Ergonomics Training
Kathy Black provided ergonomics training to Division
of Aviation employees. It was noted during the training
and workstation assessments that some of the ergonomic
chairs do not have adjustable lumbar support.
AED Placement & Training
Kathy Black inquired about automated external defibrillator
(AED) training as employees who work at the
reception area in Int’l Plaza DOA Engineering
were not trained in how to use the AED in their
area.
It was
noted that there are over 100 public access
AEDs throughout the terminals and an additional
16 in
various DOA workplace
areas. AED training is offered to all Division
of Aviation employees. The AED training is
certified through the
American Red Cross (ARC) to which the DOA has
in-house ARC certified trainers.
The 6-hour AED training includes
CPR training and a significant amount of time is
spent on hands-on exercises
demonstrating CPR and AED techniques on manikins.
There was recent AED certification training implemented
in
the Maintenance Shops on a mandatory basis as employees
were assigned to AED training as part of their job
assignment that day. Although AED/CPR training was
made mandatory
for DOA Maintenance Shops, this type of “emergency
response training” is left up to an employee’s
individual choice - - as not all employees are willing
to provide this type of emergency response. Often
times employees do not take the training for fear
of being
sued or they may injure someone as a result of their
response. It was discussed that under the Good Samaritan
Law employees are protected from potential liability
in a CPR/AED life-threatening situation. Additional
awareness to employee protections under the Good
Samaritan act
may lessen employee fears and increase employee participation
in the training.
Members of the Committee expressed interest in attending
the next AED training.
Pedestrian Walk Way from Terminal A West to International
Plaza
Kathy Black noted that there was no walk way from the
terminals (Terminal A West) to the International Plaza
Building. In order to get to IP2 via the Departures Road
employees have to walk in the roadway since there is
no sidewalk.
This issue has been brought up in the past and there
may be another route that can be taken to avoid the Departure
Road
Work Place Violence City-Wide Committee
It was noted that there is increased activity in the
city-wide workplace violence training program. Initial
pilot programs will involve three (3) departments:
DHS, Recreation, and Library. Risk Management will
complete a training outline for discussion with DC
47. The WPV training component is to be ready early
in the next year, end of Jan. possibly.
Bulletin Board
It was discussed to install seven (7) 3 x 4 or 3 x 5
safety bulletin boards at specific locations with eye
catching posters and pertinent safety-related information
(e.g., upcoming safety trainings, IOD provider sites,
safety committee minutes, Right-to-Know posters, etc.)
